Xiamen MinNan Hotel

Whilst the location is great, the hotel has seen better days. When we were there, the restaurant on the top floor was not open, and the pool, whilst functional, is not a place to relax. Breakfast is in a restaurant in a mall next door, and has a good choice of food, but is soulless. Rooms are big, but choose one on a high floor is you want a view. It's OK for an overnight stay but not for a longer trip.

For business purpose stay ok in sense of price and location. However the hotel is really tired and need serious refurbishment. Room carpet is dirty and torn. Breakfast quality is also not up to international standard.

The hotel itself is very well known in the city and was a convenient location to catch a taxi or a bus from. At night the neighborhood behind the hotel comes alive with little food shops and locals having their evening meal. The hotel is rated 4 stars, but by my experience should be rated between 2-3 stars. The staff speaks limited English, but makes efforts to assist in anyway possible. They were accommodating when our flight was canceled and we needed to stay an extra day. Our discounted room rate (from booking.com) was honored. The hotel also assisted with obtaining taxis. Their is a revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel that offers beautiful views of the city day and night, though he food is unspectacular. The decor is a bit outdated, but clean! The biggest problem would be the need for new carpeting in the common areas and the rooms. The carpet is laid unevenly which is a tripping hazard and is visibly stained throughout. The lower level room offer a view of the inside wall. The bed is very hard,but Chinese standard. Our air conditioning was inconsistent in 1 of our 3 rooms, but the staff worked to solve the problem each time. Our biggest issue was that the entire building including the non-smoking areas/rooms reeked of cigarette smoke. Would stay again, but only when having to be budget minded.
