Elan Hotel Guangzhou

PROS The location is perfect, especially for business persons. It's close to clothing and jewelry markets. The breakfast is a bonus, though it's limited with not many options other than noodles and rice, it's good enough. Rooms are cleaned daily and from what I noticed, sheets are cleaned/changed every other day which is grand for a 3-star establishment. Despite staff not being able to communicate in English, they were helpful. Finally, as it was my mother's birthday during our stay, the hotel gifted her a birthday card and a bottle of red which I thought was very kind! CONS Staff not being able to understand me/speak a little bit of English. Same breakfast daily.

The hotel is about a 20-minute-walk from the main train station. At rush hours the exits towards the hotel direction can be closed due to overcrowds. The reception staff didn’t greet or said anything to us. They also did not answer anything in English. No additional information was provided as breakfast times or internet access. The room didn’t have clear windows, they were sticked with frosted glass. You can open a small window but no view. The interior was run down, the bathroom not cleaned very well. The gangways are other public areas are full of smoky air. The breakfast is really lousy, with a boiling coffee pot and some cheap toast and jam. The staff at the dining room is also impolite and unhelpful.

Ok-ish Hotel in the stock trading area of Guangzhou. Do not expect much of this hotel, however, the rooms are ok, bathrooms are clean and beds are pretty good. The staff of this hotel is friendly, however, it’s difficult to communicate due to the language barrier. You need to be local to like the breakfast, nevertheless, cup of coffee and toast could fill in your morning’s stomach. Note: There is a perfect Chinese message salon 10 foot steps ahead of this hotel.
