Hao Yin Gloria Plaza

We stayed at this hotel as part of a layover with China Southern Airlines. Our spacious room was fabulous (maybe an upgrade?), clean, quiet and definitely exceeded expectations. Two very comfortable beds, spacious bathroom with monsoon shower head and was spotlessly clean. Despite many attempts, the in room wifi did not work unfortunately, but that is not uncommon for China hotels. Not a great deal close by (particularly as we arrived quite late), but there is a supermarket nearby (important note: local restaurants, supermarket etc only take Yuan or WeChat cards, but there is an ATM close by). As we had an early start, the hotel also packed us a breakfast pack which was unexpected. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I've travelled in China before so had certain expectations about the standard of our 'free' night from China Southern, but this hotel definitely exceeded expectations!

Clean Hotel with Large Rooms. I had a free upgrade to Suite. It was a treat. Rooms were large and beautifully furnished (see photos). I like the location, 500 m walking to Subway Station, or 15 minutes by Complimentary Shuttle Bus to Baiyun Airport.

I only stayed at the Hao Yin Gloria Plaza because a China Southern Air flight cancellation meant that I missed my flight connections and the airline needed to provide accommodation. Here's the good and the bad. This is a big property, modern and well-equipped. It has a large attached Health Centre. Staff at the front desk were friendly, with reasonable English. Rooms and bathrooms are big, towels are clean and fluffy, rooms are quiet. There are some shops in each direction out the front door, including a few 24 hour places. The hotel van takes 20-25 minutes from the airport. The bad: This is not the closest hotel to Guangzhou airport - that's probably the Pullman. The room mini-bar was locked for 'emergency transit' customers like me, just in case I wanted to drink the place dry. I found the very "black" corridor and room decor a bit unsettling: like being in a spaceship? Because I had 6am departure for my next flight, I couldn't have any "normal" hotel breakfast, so they gave us a "hotel breakfast kit". Honestly, it was either a joke or an insult - I can't quite decide which: two dry "airline round rolls", a triangle of dry white bread, a small cube of dry sponge cake, and a tetra-pack of Soy milk. Surely even a banana and some fruit-juice or water would be better than this. I acknowledge that this was the 'emergency' breakfast, and it didn't change my views overall about the Hao Yin Gloria Plaza being a reasonable option if you need one in the Guangzhou airport region.
