Phoenix City Hotel Guangzhou

The rooms are dirtyand disgusting and the staff is not polite. For a late check-out you have to pay the full day tariff including the breakfast you don’t have. Discussion makes no sense because then they say they are not speaking english.

Advertised as a 5 star hotel I stayed here on business for 3 nights. Staff are very friendly welcoming and try their best with English. Really helpful if your Chinese is poor/non existent. As many other reviews have said this place needs an update. Looking tired in places e.g rooms, paintwork (here and there), bathrooms, gym equipment. Food is good and good selection of local and western foods. A safe gated community of around 100,000 people live around the hotel. Pretty surroundings and a welcome oasis of calm. I recommend trying the Japanese restaurant opposite the hotel entrance (across the road and down some steps by the lake - very good)

I first started staying here 10 years ago. Nice hotel with huge rooms. But now starting to get a bit dated and in need of refurbishment. The wifi is terrible. Trying to do a Skype call was hopeless!! The gym is ok but equipment is rusty in places.
