Riverside

I had some occasions to stay there in last years. The hotel to my standard is not bad especially giod value for money. The rooms each year get lower and lower. Location at riverside is nice. Service is soso, breakfast little crowded and too local.

The first time I stayed here was back in 2005. Nine years later and you could be forgiven for thinking that it had been more. This hotel is very old and tired looking now. As this time and previously I used it as a base to transfer to and from the Canton Fair. There are many more options closer to the fair and certainly more modern and even cheaper. Breakfast was included but it wasn't anything special. In fact my business colleague and I were the only patrons some morning and I'm sure the food was reheated [in particular the fried eggs and most certainly the bacon]. The rooms themselves were fairly clean but wear and tear has caught up with most. Peeling paint, cracks in the tiles and dirty windows were plentiful but I must admit the bed, though hard, was comfortable. Choices from the minibar were limited to one can of coke, one juice, one lemonade and one beer. They were also about 250ml. Better to buy sundries at the 7-Eleven down the street anyway. The location is also close to Beijing Rd which is a large open shopping mall. Hustlers abound but even the 'knock offs' aren't very good quality and the prices stupidly high. Try the little restaurants directly opposite the hotel on Yan Jiang Lu [Road]. Choose one that is busy and you will be guaranteed exceptional Cantonese cuisine and your wallet wont be light afterwards. The restaurant in the hotel is very expensive and the service somewhat disorganized.

Have stayed at the hotel on three separate occasions. Pros: Great view of the river -affordable rooms Cons: -elevators are very slow -breakfast buffet isn't that good -rooms are old and furniture looks tired -very few English speaking channels on the tv
