This was a family reunion for 6 of the 9 siblings. Our parents were from quangzhou, China and left during WWII . Our ancestors had built quite a number of buildings in the small village where our parents came from and we wanted to go and see it for ourselves.
When we arrived the lobby was full of mosquitoes and was bitten quite a few times.
We received our room key, the hallways had a musty smell and had to go down a second hallway with two sets of steps- wallpapers were falling off. When I opened the door of the room I can smell the mold odor which was masked by an enormous amount of fragrance spray. I tried to open the windows and noticed the wall papers were falling apart behind the curtains and the amount of dust was enormous.
I asked to change room and they said it would be 200 yuan additional per night.
After checking out 3 other rooms- one had the same odor, the other was smoke filled and the third was being cleaned and do not have any odor- room 601. I waited in the lobby for about an hour before the room could be ready.
When I went upstairs to room 601, they had sprayed the room with fragrance- especially after I requested not to - I am allergic to any odor or smells.
I called downstairs to have the room changed again and the front desk came. We visited three more rooms. One was smoke filled, another on the 7 th floor - the hallway smelled of foul odor and a third room on the 8th floor - finally settled on 801.
I thought great, I finally had a decent room- small but at least there was no mold smell.
I asked if there will be additional charges and The young lady that helped me said no and she will reverse the first set of charges.
i woke up the next morning not feeling well and decided to rest and not join the family for their outing. I fell back asleep around 10 am only to be woken up by a bunch of drilling and jack hammers upstairs.
I called downstairs and found that the room upstairs was being remodeled and the work starts at 9 am and goes on until 4 pm. Needless to say, my rest was foiled.
We went through a travel agent to get these rooms. Never again, when my husband and I traveled, we have had more luck using trip advisor reviews and other hotel sites to choose and make hotel reservations in the past to China and Europe. The travel agent’s standards on hotel was obviously differ than mine.
Btw, the shower is a see through glass shower door from the bedding area. You can pull a drape down to shower but the lighting shows the persons silhouette.
My last thought: Buyer beware-
