Lushan Hotel

For western tourists to Shenzhen trying to find somewhere half decent to stay near the Lowu crossing with out paying the price for a branded 5 star spot, the Lushan Hotel is OK. It's a proper four star Chinese hotel. The reception staff are competent and although no English ability, you'll be in a reasonable room for the fraction of the cost of the Shangrila down the road. The location is Ok. Nothing is close or far away from Lushan hotel. Just in the middle of CBD of old Shenzhen city. You get what you pay for, plus a bit more here. Good points. Huge rooms with a split lounge and sleeping area, free wifi and good aircon. The cons, smokey smells, cigarette burns and odd stains abound. This a real Chinese business hotel, so that bed your on and the sofa have seen a lot of action and a courtesy clean every now and then. That's just the way in Chinese hotels of this type. I'd stay here again because for 650 rmb it was good enough. Bonus - A Starbucks in the entrance foyer. Skip the included breakfast at the hotel and just eat and caffinate there.

Not sure how many people are increasingly frustrated by the ever-escalating 5-star/international chain hotel price at the Luohu area (near the China/Hong Kong border), with the rest of local hotels being fairly rudimentary or outdated. I opted for not paying at the USD 200+ range and trying to pay only half without overly compromising. I came across Lushan Hotel. It was actually something quite old, about a 5 minute taxi ride from the China/Hong Kong (Luohu) border. It is also a 5 minute walk from the closest subway station. The hotel has done a completed renovation in 2014 using brand new appliances and sanitary wares. Everything in the room was new and modern, you can check out my pictures. I booked a superior single room. The room was spacious with over 600+square feet. It got a foyer, living room, working desk, huge bed, bathroom. Guest rooms were between 20-24/F in the building so a lot of open space when you looked outside. The room had a private in-room WIFI. The hotel also has a Starbucks! Now the not-so-nice, the hotel lobby has not been remade and is part of the commercial building. Owing to some design flaw, water keep splashing from shower to whole bathroom. I also could not turn off the ventilation fan in the bathroom so kind of noisy at night. Markings from the light switch peeled off not able to control all light and indicators. Carpet was stained with visible cigarette burn marks. The breakfast at the 2/F was awful. I had to make a detour to Starbucks at the ground floor. All-in-all, if you are looking for a quality, new, and spacious room but not so much on the F&B then you will find value in this hotel.

Was recently in Shenzhen for a business trip and my business partner checked me into this hotel. Lobby is very unassuming and nothing fancy - just very functional. Check in was already done for me so I cannot tell you of the check in experience. But do note that this is China and they hardly (if at all!) speak English. So the couple of times that I had to talk to the front desk staff I struggled a bit. The room assigned to me was really spacious and very clean. All amenities in good working order. However, most instructions are in Chinese and some poorly translated English but you can figure out what it is. Bed is really big!! TV programs - all in Chinese!! Room has wifi but slow speed... There were some renovations going on the 2nd floor where their coffeehouse is but I really didn't notice it very much. Breakfast was sent to my room! This hotel is in the middle of town so getting food and other amenities is not a problem. Shopping malls are close to. So all in all a good hotel in a good location.
