Sunshine Hotel Shenzhen

A nice 4-star hotel in the heart of Luohu, Shenzhen. Spacious and clean rooms, even if a bit dated in the furnishings. Staff who speak decent English (far from a given), excellent cleanliness and air conditioning control. Excellent room service. Very well positioned with respect to the city and the subway, which takes you to the border with Hong Kong after just one stop. Price per night that is half compared to an equivalent in HK, but that is typical of all of mainland China. Definitely recommended if you are in Luohu.

Average 5 star hotel with 3 star service, from outside looks ruined but the hotel lobby still looks grand and nice. Rooms not big and very dark, and toilet is the worst very small for 5 star hotel with no exhaust fan inside. The aircond cool enough but sometimes we could smell cigarettes smell inside our room, and poor soundproof as we could hear other guests talking. Breakfast has many varieties but nothing special, and everyday they change some menu so I think still worth it to try if staying here. We stay during wife birthday but hotel didn't provide anything, not even a wishing card. We clearly mention it when made booking and check in but nothing, this is the first hotel we ever stayed in that failed us. Overall we're not satisfied with our stay and wouldn't consider coming back again, there is plenty hotels around with much much better service.

My wife and I recently stayed at Shenzhen Sunshine Hotel for 3 nights and 4 days earlier this month. While the hotel itself met our expectations in terms of cleanliness and comfort, a single incident during our stay has left us extremely disappointed and, frankly, humiliated. I am writing this review not to seek compensation, but to request that hotel management conduct a proper internal investigation into what happened and how it was handled. When we checked in, the front desk receptionist offered a deal where guests could pay in advance for lunch or dinner at a discounted rate. I decided to try it for one day and paid in cash for two people. The following day, after a positive experience at the restaurant, I again paid in cash for the next day’s meal for both my wife and me. I didn’t ask for a receipt, assuming the charge would be linked to our room, and I trusted a reputable hotel like this to handle it professionally. However, on our final day, when we arrived at the restaurant to eat, a younger male server approached us and rudely claimed we had not paid. He spoke loudly, drew attention from other guests, and made us feel as though we were trying to cheat the hotel. I calmly explained that I had paid the day before and even suggested reviewing the security camera footage, as it would clearly show me paying in cash and receiving change. Despite this, the server insisted there was only one payment recorded and continued to escalate the situation. I asked for the manager. When the manager finally arrived, he didn’t ask a single question—he simply looked around and said, “Let them eat.” This response, in the middle of a dining area full of other guests watching the situation unfold, felt more like an attempt to silence the issue than to resolve it. I told the manager directly: “This isn’t about the money or the food. It’s about how you’ve made my wife and I feel—accused, judged, and humiliated for no reason.” The entire ordeal was not only emotionally distressing, it was completely avoidable. We ended up walking out of the restaurant without eating, not because of the money, but because we were so disheartened by how we were treated. To the hotel’s management: I strongly urge you to conduct an internal investigation. Review your restaurant payment logs. Check the security footage for the day prior when I paid in cash. Speak to your staff—especially the server involved—and retrain them on how to treat guests with respect and dignity. This is not how paying guests should be made to feel. I left a note and my contact information in our room before checking out. If you are serious about guest experience and upholding your hotel’s reputation, I expect someone to follow up on this matter. To fellow travelers: If you plan to eat at the hotel’s restaurant, especially when paying in cash, please insist on a receipt. No one should be put through the experience my wife and I endured—especially over a simple lunch. We came here on short notice for a business trip, and had considered returning in the future for franchising opportunities. That is now in question.
