Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort

We enjoyed 3 nights here & love the hot spring baths with various treatment (like wine, mint, ginger, etc) which is totally refreshing. Thankfully it was not crowded, allowing us not to have to jostle with other guests. The sprawling grounds give us space to enjoy leisurely walks in the morning. The restaurant has an awesome menu, especially the fish porridge & the Shiqi pigeon. The staff have been helpful & informative.

While China is full of luxury hotels now, this was the only resort in China that can compete with the world. With former guests like Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin, Zhongshan Hot Spring Resort is still a highly political venue where cadre meetings take place. The 1980s vibe persists throughout the premise. Room is fair and comfortable enough for a short stay. Breakfast is unremarkable and can be crowded. Treat it like a museum and the experience will be much better.

The resort has a total area of 2 sq. km surround with rolling hills and rivers. Within the resort, it has Two 18-hole golf courses built by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. These are the first golf courses in China completed in 1989. Some of the rooms and villas have natural hot spring bath basins. Gardening is very good with very tall palm and pine trees on the sides of the entry road. These matured trees are hard to find elsewhere.
