Guilin Overseas Chinese Mansion

We booked a 8D7N trip to Guilin through a travel agency here in Singapore and stayed 7 nights in this hotel. The first point to mention is that no one of the personnel speaks english. There is no WiFi in the whole hotel. Some rooms may have cable access to internet which we did not try since we only had 1 night a room with an internet cable. The rooms and hallways are terribly dirty. Guests smoke everywhere including in the elevator. Therefore most rooms smell terrible as well. The concept of "no-smoking rooms" does not seem to exist. After our 2nd night in a horrible filthy and smelly room we asked to change rooms. After inspecting several rooms similar dirty and smelly we finally were given a much bigger and cleaner room in a different wing (no internet access possible here). But the room was very spacious, relatively clean and did not smell. One issue was common for all 3 rooms we had: the showers are not sealed proper and there is always water on the bathroom floor after taken shower. The breakfast was another issue. No coffee or tea or fruit juice. A water fountain dispensing hot and cold water. So we took our tea bags with us to make our own tea. The only other drink was some kind of white liquid (Barley juice?). There was a rice dish and a noodle dish, porridge with 2 or 3 toppings and some kind of rice flour buns. 1 boiled egg per person. Since we both were on a carbohydrate free diet all we could eat was the 1 egg. That literally helped our diet tremendously. We had asked our tour guide if he can arrange that we can have some omelette or scrambled egg in the morning but that did not seem to be possible. However, the personnel for the breakfast went out of their way that one day when we came in 5 minutes before the end of breakfast time and everything had already been taken away and cleaning had been started. They brought us some food from the kitchen and our boiled egg. I feel bad for the friendly staff that they have to work under this circumstances (filthy rooms, very minimal breakfast). Management should improve the cleanliness of the hotel, the standard of the breakfast, have WiFi at least in the lobby and have some rooms reserved for non-smokers. I would also appreciate if smoking in the common areas like lobby, hallways and elevators would be prohibited. I can't say much about the value as I don't know how much we actually paid for the hotel with breakfast since it was a package deal.

Fortunately we stayed for just 1 night. Cockroaches in the shower, very dirty carpet everywhere (rooms, hallway), dirty towels, noisy,... Its central location is the only plus I can think of.
