Vienna Zhongshan

This was my third trip to Guilin and, of course, my third stay at the Vienna Hotel on Zhongshan Road. Everything was just as convenient, pleasant and efficient as I remember from the previous stays and they even reserved for me the same river view room I had in the previous years (# 961). If you want a centrally located, reasonably priced hotel with all the amenities expected from a much more expensive outfit, I recommend giving the Vienna Hotel Zhongshan a try.

The hotel is in an excellent, central location. Magnificent entrance, large rooms beautifully furnished, new and large bathrooms. The beds are large and comfortable. Very clean. The staff very eager. The rooms on the upper floors have good views. Pleasant surprise is its very low price. The difficulty of communicating. Only one of the shift officials speaks a few English. The other only Chinese.

The hotel is located across from China Bank, is within walking distance from many good restaurants (Chunji, McFound), a large, good Starbucks is a bit further down the Zhongshan road, the Elephant Trunk Hill Park is also within walking distance and a small night market and an area with many fresh fruit places is also nearby. I had the same room on the 19th floor I had last year and it was large, clean and with all amenities expected from a much more expensive hotel: safe box, mini-fridge, flat screen TV, a large, expensive and modern massage Japanese armchair, a well functioning ac system, etc. Breakfast is included, is served in the restaurant located on the second floor and consists in a large variety of Chinese dishes. The only caveat may be the fact that good English is rarely spoken here. However, everybody in the reception area has an English-Chinese app on their mobile phones and although my Chinese vocabulary is limited to "ni hao" and "che che", I never had a problem communicating with the hotel people. Should I return to Guilin again, I will surely choose to stay at the Vienna Zhongshan again....
