Xiangyun

Stayed for 7 days in Oct 2011. Veg hotel on ground floor serves good food. but ordering the right food is a problem for those not speaking chinese. The morning breakfast dish labels are not in English and one does not get an idea of filling inside the dumplings.

I stayed at the Xiangyun Hotel for 10 days through November and December 2010. Language barriers were the biggest problem as only the concierge spoke reasonable English so every time I had an inquiry, front desk staff called for her assistance and she was great. Forget buffet breakfast as they only cater for Chinese, no coffee, toast, omlettes etc. My bed was rock hard as is common in China (or so I was told) which may be great for your back but was like camping in the bush. Room was cleaned every day and aside from a slight water leak in the bathroom I have no complaint. A better option though is the Majestic Hotel across the road where I went for breakfast and to exchange money. Staff there spoke good English and the hotel is quite impressive.
