Haikou Marriott Hotel

The Marriott Haikou is probably one of the worst Marriotts I’ve stayed in and that’s saying something considering I’ve been in Marriotts in the USA, Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. This Marriott tries to be a luxury resort, and while the rooms are very large, with plenty of closet and sitting space, with spacious bathrooms and a balcny, that’s where the luxury ends. First the hotel is really poorly designed, as if to prevent you from taking a straight and intuitive route to anything. There are pathways that lead to dead ends, signs pointing you towards a wall, stairways that lead to nowhere (at least they should put a sign at the bottom telling you that this is not the stairway to the 2nd floor), and walkways that make you turn three times in a zig zag in order to go straight. The outdoor stairways are really poorly lit so that you might wipe out if you try to walk at night as they have lit every other step and nothing in between. I want to shoot whomever designed the hotel. Hainan is tropical, it is always hot and humid, and yet the air con in the rooms and gym is awful. You set the thermostat and it is always 10 degrees warmer. I even looked up the controls guide online (by York) and so I know the settings were correct. Ditto for the gym which was made out of three hotel rooms. The same substandard, always too hot system. This is not acceptable for a hotel on an island where it is always 30 degrees and 95% humidity. The hotel is next to the convention center, which is convenient for those attending meetings as I was. But there is nothing around it. The nearest convenience store Is a 10-12 minute walk. And yet despite this, the hotel does not have a kiosk where you can buy coffee or takeaway snacks or sandwiches. The bar / café only has food that will be cooked (and take 20 minutes) to prepare. The hotel could make a lot of money by selling simple things to guests. And yet their sole store only sells about 100 different types of swimming suits but no food or drink. Inside the room, it seems that no thought has been put into some of the conventions. The light switches are labelled and yet the English translation is wrong. Desk light becomes “book light”, etc. Did anyone actually look this up? I was there with a conference group, so the minibar food and drink have been removed from the fridge, which is fine, but then why leave the minibar menu so prominently displayed? There is in room coffee but no coffee cups (only glasses which aren’t supposed to take boiling water) and of course, no stirrers, creamer or sugar. IN short, the hotel just has a lot of missing links. There were some positives; The pools are large, the gym is decent and the equipment (except for the bike) is in good condition. But it's always so hot in there! You just want to ask whether anyone thought things through with this hotel. Luckily I was there for an event and my room wasn’t paid by me, but if I had actually spent the money, I would rue my choice! Not coming back.

this resort is closed to Haikou convention and exhibition center and not far from Haikou train station by bus G37. Different types of pools were surrounded by tropical garden. Club lounge happy hour was so great to provided fried salmon,ice cream, and other seafood. Room was very spacious and comfortable.

The hotel staff is warm and considerate, the environment is beautiful and the location is good. It is close to CDFG. In particular, Miranda at the front desk is very enthusiastic, skilled and efficient. She helped us check in quickly and well. The room is quite large, and the executive sea view is refreshing and has a good view. The breakfast is very rich, with many varieties and very user-friendly. The executive lounge has a good environment, where you can calm down and have a drink happily. It is definitely a good place for vacation. It is also very convenient to swim, exercise and ride a bike, or you can walk along the beach after dinner. The hotel has a shuttle bus to the duty-free shop, which is very convenient. The nearby Yuanda Plaza is a very mature consumer circle with food and entertainment.
