Hongyi Hotel

I am assigned with a room on the lower floor and it was well-furnished despite my particular room has no out-facing window (only one facing the atrium). Staff at the bar is extremely friendly and polite .

Stayed here whilst on business to visit the highly respected and brilliant Wuhan University. Rooms were ok, my room smelt a little of cigarette smoke despite asking for non-smoking room/ floor. Really good views of the city surrounds, especially at night. Very close to the lake where we went on a good walk. Excellent location to the University, Medical School and Zhongnan hospital. Food was reasonable for breakfast (not the greatest choice). Overall a hotel that seemed a little tired and old to me, but does the trick for location

This is the eighth or nineth time I have stayed at this hotel the Fawlty Towers of China. Each time gets progressively more bizarre but the staff are so much more helpful. I have complained in the past that the room service menu was very restricted and has not changed in 6 years. That the fried rice is never available. I am pleased to report that has changed. There is now no room service menu at all. Teetotallers will also be pleased to note that the only alcohol available is beer despite a poster showing happy people toasting each other with an (improbable for China) amount of wine. The canned beer is served shaken but not chilled. Staff have been really helpful by moving my room to assist me to find some internet connection. I am on my third room but there is no improvement. One email takes 5 minutes to send and there are frequent cutouts. Work is impossible. However, this has given me an insight into the quality control in the rooms. What is loosely termed music is piped into the rooms 12 hours per day. It is impossible to turn it off or escape. Apparently I am the only guest to ever complain about this. There are about 25 TV channels: none in English. If you request a non-smoking room it is no problem. Staff offer to remove the two ashtrays. Unfortunately that does not remove the smell or the smoke entering through the air con. I have had issues with fridges not working in the past. This has not been a problem this visit. They were kind enough to remove the out-of-date instant noodles from my fridge and also to lock my food inside my fridge so that I could not access it. Breakfast has not changed except there is now a yoghurt-dispensing machine. The first I have ever encountered. The resulting exudate is incredibly sweet and as inedible as everything else. My second room had a novel feature. The sensor lights in the hall did not detect room occupants moving around but instead people upstairs or those moving around in the corridor outside. This resulted in frequent light shows throughout the night. The third room is a little better, no feeling wallpaper and lacks the hair I found in the sink and shower in the first two rooms. The tiles however are chipped and I have cut my foot ...and left a bit of myself in the form of blood on the carpet. The environment is their priority at this hotel so they ignore the notices saying that towels hung up will not be laundered and do these every day. They also turn on the aircon to a ludicrously high temperature throughout the day to ensure that the empty room stays at oven temperature.
