The Purple Palace Nanjing

Contrary to the old reviews (2019 etc), I was pleased to enjoy a very nice stay at the hotel that just have been upgraded since earlier experiences. One of several conference style hotels around the lake, this was a good hotel, helpful staff, quiet ambience, comfortable rooms. It is not hyper modern but it is well decorated and equipped. There is a large swimming pool and restaurant is very good. So a pleasant surprise and recommended.

This is so close to being a 4 star hotel, but it just misses the mark. Rooms are large and have a beautiful view of the lake but things are just a BIT too tired and a BIT too “not posh.” Breakfast is nice, changes daily, and the girl at the entrance is super sweet and welcoming. The view from the room is really the reason to stay. The hotel is really in the middle of nowhere, there is not a bar (per se - although there is a “place” you can get some whiskey or tequila -?-). Other than breakfast, restaurants are not worth mentioning. Many delivery places won’t come because of the hassle to get onto the property. “Minibar” had warm cans of coke and sprite

My husband and I stayed one night here as a get away from the noisy Gulou section of Nanjing. Our room, while a smoking room, was wonderful. It didn’t smell of smoke at all. It was clean and very comfortable. We stayed in a small building next to the convention center. The grounds are beautiful and we had a nice walk around the lakes in the late afternoon. The next day we met a friend and walked up Purple Mountain, which was a real treat. The breakfast was adequate. A big plus was the espresso machine. There were plenty of dishes to choose from. In short, I believe the bad reviews were from before this hotel was remodeled. It is now quite nice. The main building was closed for a complete remodeling while we were there. This was the best hotel room we’ve had in 3 1/2 weeks in China.
