Ibis Shenyang The Centre

We got dropped off here by a local as it was close to his apartment- it was an unexpected stay. AC didn't work, room smelt of cigarette smoke. Smoke detector was stuffed with toilet paper!! Bed was really hard, pillows were really thin- we used towels and clothes to try and be more comfortable. It had the only toilet we've ever seen with a 'stop' button to stop it flushing! Staff were friendly, even though no English spoken. The cook at breakfast gave us fried eggs and sausages, plus cutlery, which was a lovely gesture. Position was good, as we walked about 5 minutes to a metro. There are other places that are cheap but probably better. But- definitely no rude staff.

My stay at this particular Ibis was pleasant and well worth the price. Rooms were everything you would expect from an Ibis...if you are familiar with this type of budget European style hotel you will feel comfortable. Breakfast was sufficient with cereals, breads, juices, and various fruits and yogurt. Location was not too far from the train station or main shopping street (Zhong Jie). All in all it was everything I expected, I always choose Ibis when available!

Upon arrival a young girl with no English skills was at the reception. She was impolite and had not clue of how to be nice, friendly and welcoming. Another staff member arrived, a guy who spoke some English, and showed a bit service mindness. Rooms: My friends room, smelled heavily of tobacco, to get another room was difficult and again the reception showed no service mindness. Some time later I called the reception, to ask how to use the air-conditioner as the room was too warm, upon 3rd call and seeing a maintainance guy, I was told to switch it off. It had only warm air. Ten minutes later 2 bottles of water was delivered to our room! In the morning when we needed a taxi, no service. But finally a guy was helpful. We even had the name of our destination written in Chinese, and the word taxi!
