The Times Hotel

Even though I was travelling with two local Chinese colleagues they also wanted to check out after one night and the only reason we stayed one night is our flight from Beijing was delayed and we arrived after midnight. The rooms are disgusting and are not clean and the whole floor stinks of stale cigarettes and it is obvious the hotel caters towards local Chinese tour groups and single males (hence the boxes of condoms available in the bathroom) as I met no one who could speak English. I have lived in Asia for 25 years and have eaten most dishes in various countries but breakfast even had my colleagues guessing what some dishes were...never again

Despite the not-so-good reviews, we decided to stay here for three nights in December 2014. We booked a suite through Expedia. To make your stay here less stressful, I guess being able to speak Chinese is an advantage, though I didn't try to speak to the staff in English. The suite was freshened-up daily. Though our booking said the suite comes with "wired Internet", we detected WIFI as well. But I must admit, the suite PC and the applications are somewhat outdated.My only complaint is that the hotel is quite a distance from the walled city. Of course, bus no. 912 will take you there if you got the patience to wait. It was also a good learning experience taking the same transportation with the locals. There are some good eateries near the hotel and it is probably cheaper that eating in the city. You can have a wide variety of local dishes and certainly hunger will be unheard of if you stay around here.

Girls on the counter did not speak any English at all. When we got to the room, it had not been cleaned and there was urine all over the toilet. There was a roach making an entrance under the bed. The rooms smell of smoke, even the non smoking rooms. Furthermore, they did not honor the request for 2 double beds. We had to go to another hotel because staying here was just unbarable!
