The hotel was very central, the beds comfortable, room clean and warm, considering it was -6 outside and snowing, and shower worked well. The hotel and it's location suited my travelling needs. Only one staff spoke English and was very helpful.

The hotel is centrally located right opposite the Drum tower and muslim quarter. Also just a few minutes walk from the Bell tower and subway station. There are lots of eateries nearby. The room size is reasonable and clean. The outside of the hotel looks very old though. They have shuttle to the airport too. Good price for their room!

I stayed at Melody hotel in Feb 2016 for 3 nights. Originally, we picked this hotel because it was the airport shuttle drop off point according to our travel book written in 2014. That's changed. The airport shuttle no longer stops there. Instead, you can still take an airport shuttle but it'll drop people at different hotels. I forget the costs but I'm sure it's more than the original shuttle. Also, traffic into the city is very bad. We had a room facing another building so the view wasn't great. Also, there was loud music coming from outside playing until about midnight. I wore earplugs so it wasn't too bad falling asleep but having some quiet after a long day of sightseeing is always nice. Every day, the hotel gives you a yogurt drink which comes in handy if you decide to try some of the local spicy dishes. I found the wifi in ALL the hotels we stayed in China to be shoddy not just this one. It would always cut out. The hotel staff speaks very minimal English. Learn some basic mandarin. They have tours that go to different sites but we didn't try them. All we wanted was a shuttle to the sites so instead we used the Chinese Uber app called DiDi. It turned out to be much cheaper than taking a cab. I think it was about 300RMB for a round trip and the driver waited for us while we were at the terracotta warriors. I'd probably stay there again but I would ask for a room facing the street or the drum tower. Also, I'd ask for a higher level room to get away from the street noise.
