Guiyou Hotel Jinan

Stayed here recently during a working trip to Jinan. Its a 3* hotel (hotel claims to be 4, but one star can be generally deducted for China hotels). It was good value for money, clean rooms with fast and free broadband access, minibar, nice bed and bathroom. Request for a room away from the busy mainroad. Location is not so ideal, its in a western suburb, quite far from the city center.

Our group stayed here after, apparently, our guide made a mistake. Like most Chinese hotels the lobby is very nice - and the rooms and hallways are dark. I stayed in what I determined, after comparing notes with the group, was an average room - the carpet was filthy - even in the hallway - goodness knows what the stains were - you did not want to put your feet on the floor. However, it was acceptably clean otherwise. The shower only dribbled water and the shower head looked to have been installed when Mao was still alive. The light bulbs were all about 25-40 watts - with all of them on you could barely make out black or navy blue socks. Everyone in our group received a phone call about 9pm asking if we wanted a massage - but if a woman answered the phone they hung up without asking the question. This was fairly common across the parts of China in which we traveled. The hotel was predominantly Chinese guests.
