Shungeng Hillview

Just spent 2 months in that hotel and had a wonderful experience. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, no matter the request. My room was a recently renovated room and was very comfortable. I especially appreciated the bed and sheets. The bathroom with its rain-shower was satisfying after a day's work. The only difficulty for me was the buffet. Despite our asking, we hardly ever had anything vegetarian. If only they made an effort with that, it would have made my stay entirely perfect. But there was meat in everything, even the vegetable dishes. I had to improvise a few times in order to eat enough. But this is the only downside to my stay.

I have spent a month at the Hillview once in the fall last year and once last winter (2016). I love the Hillview. It is clean, beautiful with excellent food and a very friendly and competent staff. Not everyone speaks English but even with very my limited knowledge of Manadarin, I felt that my message always got through. The staff is very thoughtful: I received a rose and a lovely message in International Women's Day and golden beans on Dragon Raising Day. It is a home away from my own.

So many fountains and greenery. They didn't turn the fountains on, therefore, they were a huge breeding ground for mosquitoes. We tried to talk to the hotel manager and he kept insisting that it was the trees that created all the mosquitoes and didn't listen when we said no....they live in trees but breed in the water. Needless to say......soooo many bites. Everyone in our group complained. Not many western people stay in this hotel.
