Holiday Inn Exp Shanghai New Hongqiao

Room is quite clean and new. Other than that, i feel that it is just a normal hotel. nothing to shout out. nothing to complain too. Near to hongqiao airport and some shopping centres beside. Tried the haidilao near by. Much more interesting that this hotel.

The property was decent but the supporting crew/ staff on duty wasn’t. The choice of breakfast served was poor as opposed to what was projected. More over it was unhygienic with insects flying everywhere inside the property and on the food. Certainly does not live up to the holiday inn brand status. Would not recommend.

Proximity to the exhibition centre is great, it takes about 15 minutes in a taxi (but be prepared for hour long hour queues when leaving the exhibition centre). Hotel staff are all polite, a couple speak English but none great. The rooms are clean and modern. There is a general smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hotel but I was lucky enough to have a room with no smoke smell at all (801), though the smell did hit me as soon as I left the room, even on a non smoking floor? Negatives The breakfast buffet: Is very Chinese, I was a little surprised, considering it’s an international hotel chain catering to an international clientele, the food options were not great if you didn’t want a Chinese breakfast. Note to hotel: you don’t serve salad dressing (mayonnaise) with fruit salad, you serve yogurt! The toaster didn’t toast, it just dried out the bread. Basically I had a very small breakfast each day. Laundry: 4 x shirts 4 x undies 4 x pairs of socks Cost AU$60 to be laundered (not dry cleaned), that’s outrageously expensive and basically rude. There’s not much around to see, basically your only stay here if you were attending something at the exhibition centre or flying out of the second airport. It’s a very long drive to Pudong airport and cost around AU$70 in a taxi (in light traffic). A taxi to the Shanghai Bund area cost around AU$18
