Shanghai Jinchen Hotel

Perfect location, for getting around in Shanghai. Great breakfast and really friendly and helpful staff (always happy to help in booking cabs and tours and giving directions). Rooms always clean. Would stay again!

The hotel is located right at Huaihai Middle Station, and a short walk to Shanxi South Station. It is in the middle of the shopping strip, and nearby Sinan Road. You can walk to Xintiandi and Tianzhifang leisurely, and even the Starbucks Roastery. And is just a station away from People’s Square which is the start of Nanjing Pedestrian Road. Otherwise, just Didi to any of these places within 5-10mins, but not during peak. The congestion is bad during peak and some taxis wouldn’t want to go there if you taking cab back. The subway is your best choice in this case. Hotel rooms are good sized for Shanghai, and my parents even got an upgrade which was awesome. A warning that there’s some stairs up to the ground lobby so if you are there after the bellboy knocks off, you will have to lugged them up those stairs. Reception is on the floor above. Be warned that the Queen Room City View we had features glass doors for both toilet and shower. 😅

I'm giving 4 stars for the value of this room, the hotel location, and the in-room amenities. There were plenty of drawers, a mini-fridge for your own food, plenty of plugs/USB chargers, and a comfortable vanity + separate shower room, which I like. It was perfect for one person. The wifi worked no problem (and my VPN worked as well, which was a bonus!). A very pleasant surprise was how QUIET the room was. I was on the third floor facing the street and had no problems with noise (I live in LA and have lived in NYC, Boston & San Fran for reference). Other city hotels are much noisier. You are in the middle of shopping and restaurants so I didn't spend time in the hotel and had breakfast elsewhere except for one morning. Mostly Asian choices with a few Western items available via buffet. Near two subway stations, and the Shanghai metro is quite easy to use if you are comfortable with public transit. And if you have some free time you are near the French Concession, worth a walk down the tree-lined streets past Sun Yat-sen's former residence and through a beautiful park. Again, for the price is is high-value, especially if you don't require a lot of help from a concierge for planning purposes.
