Shanghai Respond Apartment Hotel

This was absolutely the worst hotel I have had the misfortune to book for two years and it wasn't cheap for the privilege. I regretted not opting for the 168 Motel not too far distant. The good: Proximity to western bars and restaurants in Pudong. They lent me a computer mouse and helped me to send an important email when my laptop crashed, That's it. The bad: Advertised as an apartment with a kitchen. Yes, it had a sink, cupboards, gas hob and what I think was a dishwasher (or more likely dish dryer). No gas for the hob, no cutlery, crockery, pots, pans or fridge. Banish all thoughts of cooking. On the second day I asked the maid to clean a glass I had used for wine the night before and she indicated I could do it myself and showed me how - with plain cold water and a toothbrush. She very kindly left me the toothbrush so I could indeed do it myself (and had to thereafter). The bed felt as if it was sprung with bricks and the shower either gave you second degree scalding for the first five minutes or froze you to death thereafter. It really was an awful experience and it is a shame because with a lot more effort (making the kitchen useable and equipping it would be a huge plus as I had intended to cook English breakfasts, hence the reason for booking in the first place) it could just be a decent bolt-hole. As it stands I would be ridiculed (and quite rightly so) were I to recommend this place and someone was stupid enough to do so. There are cheaper and better places in the vicinity that are also blessed with an in-house bar and nearby shops, this place is in a civilisation desert nestling amid factories.

The Room service and the apartment is good but there are few cons that one should address before booking this place. The place is not wifi enabled and hence you always need to put the wire in your computer for the internet.The internet is not that good too. There's a kitchen with good facilities , if you wish to cook.there's no food facility around and hence you might need to use the kitchen than you are expectations.. The television sets provided are useless for people who dont understand chinese. Nobody understands english and hence it is difficult for foreign ppl to commute their issues.
