The first words of a friend of mine, who visited me in my room, characterize the rooms pretty well: "Wow, this is old school." Bed side control panels for the room's lighting, music selector and so on, with real old-school rotary dials. The rooms are clean, quite spacy, but certainly lack the little bit of luxury you'd expect of a 4****-hotel. However, the bed was very comfy, and that's all that counts. There also is a free Wifi access point, however, it seems that this service isn't provided by the hotel, as they still are trying to sell their ADSL internet service (1 RMB/min). Room: 4**** In contrast, the bath room really isn't okay. The shower head is mounted at a fixed height of around 170cm, I constantly had to bend my knees in order to wash my hair. Some of the surroundings of the shower/tub are covered with mold, especially the shower curtain really was disgusting. Bath room: 2** Two final words of warning: 1) don't ever have ice cubes at this hotel, or you'll end up with the worst diarrhea you could possibly imagine. 2) check your credit card slip before you sign. They seem to directly convert the RMB amount to the currency of your home country. However, the exchange rate they use is much worse than the one you'd get with your bank. The credit card slip has the note "I declare that I have been offered a choice of payment currencies and my choice is final." However, they haven't lost a single word about this choice. Rip-off. .. In fairness to this hotel, we stayed about an hour before we moved on to the Crowne Plaza. The room was not clean and had a foul odor. The bathroom was sparse and moldy. There was rust in the tub. There was paint peeling off the walls and ceiling. In several places the ceiling had been patched but not painted. The location is poor. Several Asian colleagues have reported that they were solicited by prostitutes who called their room conspicuously after they exchanged Hong Kong dollars for Yuan. This establishment was awarded a 4 diamond rating by the Chinese hotel authority.
