Novotel Shanghai Jingan

Another review on here states it well: “Far below Novotel standard”. We stayed here for 4 nights as an ALL Diamond. Checking in was a terrible experience, none of the staff were able to communicate in English, and were unwilling to help. The priority check-in staff looked pissed throughout the exchange, from start to finish. Checkout was equally bad with us having to carry our own bags down. The reception said, “okay” when asked to send a bellboy but did not send any. We were almost late for our flight as a result of waiting for this non-existent bellboy. The entire checkout process needed Google Translate as they spoke close to no English. Okay hotel horrendous service. Please book any other Novotel, as they are far better than the horrendous hotel that was Novotel Jingan.

As a member of ALL Gold, I recently spent four nights at Shanghai JingAn Novotel, and although I have a few positive things to say, more about my stay could be said in a constructive way. The good things: - I appreciated my clean, and comfortable room. - It is commendable that the breakfast service offered a variety of choices and good quality. - The hotel has a big and modern laundry facility which is a plus for longer stays. - I appreciate the modern touch of the food and drink ordering option that is delivered by robot. - The area with the hotel is great, with several local restaurants and close to the Metro. Things I think are constructive: - The Front office explained the hotel was at full capacity, and therefore I could not be moved to a room with a view. I was disappointed to hear this, especially as I did not receive a complimentary upgrade, as I had been moved from my original room on a low floor, and I was simply asking to be moved to a higher floor. - The hotel had a very industrial feel and vibe which was not welcoming. - I appreciate that the hotel is under renovation, but the noise was very disruptive, which I did not appreciate. - Following the first night, I discovered an insect on the bed. I reported it to the Front Office and nothing more than an acknowledgment was given, with zero apologies. In the end, despite the amenities and the location being considerable positives, the general lack of cordiality, coupled with the sanitation and sound-related problems, diminished the overall experience to a considerable degree.

Upon arrival we were met by very friendly staff considering we didn’t arrive until midnight. The check in staff were helpful and efficient. The room while not large was perfect for us with a comfortable bed and bathroom facilities. The hotel is also close to the subway and other public transport. The restaurant has a good selection of food and area of good servings, tasty and fresh.
