If you want to stay around the French Concession area of Shanghai, then this hotel is maybe the best deal of price and quality you'll get. The hotel is smart and spacious, bedroom quality and size is good. Staff are pleasant and helpful, with a reasonable spattering of English. Breakfast is very adequate: the western offering is quite OK if limited, though a little boring after a few days; there is of course plenty of Chinese stuff. And the price (that we paid) is good in comparison with similar quality hotels in the locality.

Large property built in colonial style. In a part of the French Concession. Plenty of greenery in the property and they have rooms in the main building as well as in the villas in the hotel. We tried their breakfast spread which had both local Shanghai and continental fare.

We stayed at Anting Villa a total of seven nights, with a trip to Beijing in between. The hotel is set in a great looking courtyard at a good location near the Hengshan metro stop on line 1. It is within walking distance of the French Concession, but it is a long walk. The rooms themselves were fairly small with very little storage room and only a couple of hangers. I would compare the feel of the room to that of a Courtyard by Marriott, or maybe just a bit below, but smaller. The breakfast was good, with both Western and Chinese options. The beds were on the firm side, but still very comfortable.
