Baolong homelike (Zhongshan Branch) Hotel

low cost room, basic amenities in a fairly central area of shanghai and near a metro station. there is not a lot to do around this area though so if you plan to stay a few days that is worth taking into account. it is a budget hotel suitable for business or visitors looking to save a bit of cash on hotel rooms. the place is quiet enough and clean although the place itself could do with a makeover as it does look a bit shabby. there is free wi-fi but when i stayed it was very hit and miss connecting to it. if you are driving, they have free parking around the back of the hotel building.

I stayed in this hotel for a total of 18 days. I’ll start with the positives followed up by the negatives. Positives: - room is of a fair size for two people. - air con works well (much needed in 37c) - house keeping available every day. - basic amenities available such as toothbrush/paste, hair dryer, fresh towels. - comfy bed. Negatives: - rooms are dirty, dust all over the floor, walls have stains. Lights are really dim and the rooms are dark so curtains open is a must. - don’t think the rooms are sound proof as a lot of noise was heard from above and next door. - you can hear people in the hallway clearly and sometimes wakes you up. - housekeepers shout at each other in the mornings and ALWAYS managed to wake me up by it. - small rolls of toilet paper for two people. - massage/hooker cards slipped under the door every night. At one point I had a collection if 8 cards. - bathroom was dirty and needed a deep clean (scum in shower, smell from toilet) - hard to communicate if you do not know chinese (but hey you’re in china) - hotel states it is not a smoking hotel but in the elevator and the hallway I could smell cigarette smoke daily. Conclusion - This hotel is very very basic, I do not regret my stay here as I paid £16 a night. It is a base for my travels and I only use to sleep and wash. It has the basic necessities for me which is all that was needed. I am realistic and expected it was not going to be 5 star at 2 star prices. I did not have any issues during my stay with things failing so that’s definitely a plus. If you’re use to plush living then this isn’t the place for you. For people who moan that staff don’t know English, then I think you should realise you’re in china and the problem is you not knowing chinese. The Chinese don’t go to the uk and give negative feedback because most english people just know English...be realistic.

Stayed there for 6 Days... As I was only present to sleep... Hotel did not bother much.... Staff does not speak English... within reach to the Subway Station.... Room Service is good.... overall OK...
