Caution to those thinking of staying here – this hotel has horrible service. We booked this hotel for six nights. I want to start by saying that I’ve been in many hotels both in China and other parts of the world and I can confidently say that this hotel has redefined the meaning of poor service. The hotel manager harassed me. I was forced to call the police. The police came and told the manager to stop banging at my door at midnight and let my wife and I sleep peacefully. I’ll tell you exactly what happened – right from the beginning. We booked this roughly two weeks ago on Agoda. We received a great price and were thrilled with all of the positive reviews. I have a medical condition – sleep apnea – which basically requires both a power source and a night table. When booking the room, this was written on the notes. Upon check-in - the room was not equipped with what I needed. I spoke to the woman at the front desk, Vivian, who tried her best to help. It was 9pm and I told her that I was happy to check-out and find another hotel. We booked 6 nights. Vivian said that she was unable to process a refund however she was happy to help me contact Agoda. I called Agoda with Vivian’s help. Agoda spoke to Vivian regarding the refund. They decided that it was OK for me to utilize a table from the lobby. The lobby had 5 coffee tables. The table would fit beside the bed. We carried the table to our room. We cleaned the table with soap from the hotel. We then started to unpack all of our belongings. Alas we had a chance to put our feet up and relax after a long day. Vivian called us back. I expected a warm apology and perhaps some token of remorse. Perhaps a bottle of champagne. However, I received a real shock. She said that she spoke to the hotel manager and the manager demanded that I was to return the table immediately. If I didn’t do this she would lose her job. I was shocked. It was one coffee table out of five. I told her that I was happy to write her a good reference. It was now 11pm and we were ready for bed. I told her that I already carried it up (it was heavy) and washed it. And furthermore, we had already unpacked and were settled for the night. I told her that I was tired and wanted to sleep. My suggestion was to replace the table in the morning with a suitable alternative. I then wished her goodnight and disconnected my phone. I went to hop in the shower and get ready for bed as I was exhausted. My wife was already fast asleep. As I was in the shower I heard banging at the door. To my surprise, it was the manager. I pleaded to the manager to stop banging and let us sleep. He refused and kept banging. He also continuously rang the bell. I then said that I would call the police if he didn’t stop. His key would not allow him in the room as the internal deadbolt was activated. He threatened to enter through other methods. Alas he didn’t stop so we called the police. When the police arrived, we spoke together and agreed that we were to checkout at 7am and a refund would be provided.

The location is really good, it's close to The Bund and the Metro. Staff is friendly, English not perfect but enough. The room was small but clean. If you're on a budget then this definitely is a good choice!
