Gloria Plaza Hotel Kangqiao Shanghai

I reviewed this hotel on Tripadvisor and other sites and seemed to get good reviews and pictures looked good for a reasonably priced hotel close to the Disney clomplex , so I booked for two nights . First impression looked ok but on entering the hotel stank of cigarette smoke ? After checking in went to the room looked nothing like the rooms on the internet , went to the room and was disgusting dirty and stank of smoke , went to reception to explain and got a new room which was even worse , they tried to say the room was clean so the cleaners came with me and I pointed out the cigarette butts in the bathroom and ash on the carpet beside the bed ! Possibly the dirtiest hotel room I’ve ever seen after some food outside not in the hotel I decided to leave and contacted agoda with pictures of the room for a refund, I was seriously concerned about my health or hotel catching fire .

I booked 10 nights at this hotel as it was recommended by the convention center. But after one night I had to leave. For one it is not as nice as the photos would make it seem. The actual condition is a little run down. Secondly and more importantly to me was that this hotel is really in the middle of nowhere. This is really really deep China, if you are not a national or very comfortable with Chinese culture and language you will feel out of place. It is truly a Chinese hotel for Chinese. That said there is nothing in the area. It is around a 30 minute taxi drive from PVG, around 75 RMB. also around 30 minutes to the financial district, which incidentally is no prize either, but much more accessible to downtown Shanghai and places that are of interest to visitors. The wifi was included but dreadfully slow so this really did it in for me as I need to be in communication to my office. Add that to the labyrinth of navigating the Internet in China! On a positive note, the hotel staff were really very very nice people and very helpful despite the fact that only one spoke English. At 350 RMB per night the price was right but I had to flee to higher ground!

I'm from Sri Lanka and I got a good discount and booked this hotel at around 60 USD. Boom! I got a very good room and it's almost similar to a 5 Star hotel room. I picked up this hotel to visit Disneyland next day and also its close to Airport. From hotel to Disneyland it's just 15 minutes and 25 RMB in a taxi. To airport it took around 30 minutes and 100 RMB via taxi. Everything went well with the hotel. Make sure you get the address correctly and the phone number of the hotel in order to find it easily for taxi drivers. Food was not so great as I'm an Asian traveler. It's not a complaint but everything else is very good. Highly recommend this hotel those who wish to go to Disneyland.
