Shanghai Ganghong Hotel

Not a very new hotel, rooms are okay but not bad in this price. Some rooms have the city view which is beautiful if you are on a higher floor. There's KTV on the 5th floor but that doesn't disturb the hotel ambience at all unless the elevator stops there while you are going up. There is a spa on the 7th floor. The breakfast finishes early so make sure you are an early Chinese bird.

While this hotel is not new our room was large and the bed very large. Plenty of room to open cases and a number of chairs about the room. The bathroom was clean and well equipped. A slight problem with the toilet was promptly fixed. As the dining room was closed for renovation we ate in the downstairs cafe where food was limited but OK. While not in the center of Shanghai the Metro is within walking distance and easy to use.

It was one of the good hotels I stayed during my China tour trip. My room was good, spacious enough and clean enough; The air-con was silent and functioned well during that hot night so I was able to sleep well. Here are the reasons I did not give this one more stars: - The location is not good. There is nothing nearby. As long as you only need a place to sleep, it will be fine. - There are massage parlors on 7th floor and karaoke on 5th floor. Offices are on other floors. In the morning it confused me a bit when not all the lifts operate to the hotel floors, and it really took some time to get out of there. Again, if you only need a place to sleep then it shouldn't be a problem, but anyway this kind of mixed use annoyed me. - Breakfast finishes early. If you come down to the 3rd floor at 8 (they open until 9) there is little left and it seems they don't bother to refill the empty dishes. This hotel is suitable for business travel than for tourism travelers.
