Starway Hotel Nanquan Shanghai

Great Budget Hotel, for around 240rmb a night this place is a steal. The Rooms are Super Clean so is the Hotel Complex. Buffet Breakfast is Chinese Breakfast with limited choices, but they do have a Toaster which was surprising, Sausages, Boiled Eggs, Chinese Sauteed Veges, Chinese Dumplings,Corn, Fried Noodles and Coffee & Tea (although coffee was warm and hot water wasnt boiling hot). Room had basic items and bath accesories, internet great, location though is around 12 minutes walk from the metro which isnt a big issue with lots of restaurants around the area. 4 metro stops to downtown basically. Great sleep quality and value tempted to give it 5 stars but location drops it for me. Definately would stay again

First the negative. The address for the hotel may well be Nanquan Road but in fact it is located down another, smaller road which runs off it. Many taxi drivers have no idea where it is so getting there can present a problem. Positives. There are many. Considering the district the room rates cannot be faulted. I paid just over 900 yuan for a four night stay. Due to the fact that the hotel is set way back from the main road there is no road noise and I had very little disturbance from other guests - unusual in China. The first night my room's central airconditioning didn't work but by the time I realised I was far too tired to go through the rigmarole of getting them to fix it at that time of night. Just as well because the next morning they couldn't sort it and so I was moved to another room where it worked perfectly. They were keen to please the foreigner and indeed were at pains to point out it was an honour as presumably they don't get many. Reception staff spoke a little English, certainly enough for me. The room was spacious and clean, plenty of toiletries and the only slight criticism I have is that on the 5th floor the water pressure to the shower wasn't too good but was still enough to have one. The location for the western restaurants in Pudong is reasonable and it is hardly the hotel's fault when the cab drivers take you the long way - even when you are with Chinese friends. My verdict: Good value for money and recommended to anyone wishing to stay in that area.

The Starway Hotel Nanquan in Shanghai was a reasonably-priced, elegant hotel in the Pudong. The breakfast buffet was fabulous - so delicious. Air-conditioning worked well, shower was wonderful, provided shampoo and shower gel had a lovely herbal quality. The beds were quite firm, uncomfortably so for some of us, but I slept very well.
