JI Hotel Shanghai Xuhui Yueyang Road

This is one of the worst and that too expensive hotel I have been to. Was there for work and it was just the next building to office and this was only positive for me Cons ------ - No proper restaurant, they just have a family run small eating place on top floor which cant be called restaurant. But i must say food there cooked by the lady is good and so is service but that does not make it a restaurant - Dirty rooms - No proper lighting - no service in rooms - Not good crowd - Very expensive Only reason this hotel runs and is expensive since there is a famous hospital nearby. Also this arae is busy area hence when all other hotels are full this is only left (Reason why I had to take this). If available Hope Hotel very near to this is excellent.

This hotel is in the French Concession about 1/2 mile from the metro and near a lot of nice bars and restaurants. That's where the "good" ends. The service is incompetent - it took me half an hour to convince them that I already gave them money for the room while checking out. I almost just gave up since I had to catch a train. They were unhelpful about anything else. They charged us for the more expensive room since the others were "full." First, we never saw anybody else in the hotel. Second, the more expensive room is the same - they just force charge you for breakfast. The breakfast is...almost non-existent. The one morning we decide to try it, we go upstairs and the staff is almost surprised someone came. They looked at us and pointed to the only thing cooked - a big pot of soup. We look at it and it's basically the Temple of Doom eyeball soup. We just turned around and left. The rooms were ok, nothing special.

I love the YueYang Hotel! It's not frilly, it's not special but it's in a great little area in the French Concession and close to some great places to eat or get a drink! When I check out, the staff at the hotel are always able to accommodate my baggage until later in the day when I can pick it up. The staff's English is limited but since Expo started, it seems as though there may be a couple of new employees who can speak better English. My worst experience at Yueyang involved a group of high school violin students who decided to practice for a concert at 7am. The hotel didn't understand what I was saying when I called to complain to the front desk but I decided just to wake up early - had I been out later that evening, I would have been very angry! The particular room I had also had a faulty toilet which was inconvenient. Overall though, for the price, you can't go wrong with Yueyang! It's clean, has basic amenities as well - just make sure you bring your own water!
