Huakang Dijing Hotel - Taiyuan

The rooms are large, but outdated, with little attention to detail. Non smoking floor smelled strongly of smoke, as did the non smoking rooms. The beds are not comfortable. Bathtub is badly designed, and after showering the bathroom is flooded. The staff are friendly and kind.

Everyone smokes everywhere really, though this place just hit new heights... First impression was fogged by the taste of the cheap cigarettes at reception with guests and the endless ashtrays left across the tables... I was obviously given a smoking room, since most of the place is, but surprisingly one was available on the "non-smoking" floor, which happened to be littered with ashtrays anyways and the scent present across the corridor anyway. The room view is actually ok, l was surprised as well with the amount of amenities and YOU have to ask for an additional wifi antenna, if you need a decent connection to do navigate even the basic stuff. The bed is down feather so if you are allergic there is now way you could stay in this hotel, both room l was in, they just come out through the linens. The room is reasonably clean, but there is a smell coming from the shower... and the water. A peculiar particularity is a filtered water tap additional to the normal taps in the bathroom which was convenient, but you only realise what a blessing it is when night falls, and you wake up due to how dry the place is. The cupboard is tiny, you could barely fit your coat... clear aimed at business one night stays. And the entertainment system is almost non-existent with a list of the normal Chinese channels, fuzzy because it is still an analogue system. I tried the room service as well, and it comes from the restaurant next door, you haver to leave a 100rmb deposit, before they return it on collection, portions are pretty generous and there is no surcharge. for pretty decent local food. Ignore the funny names as clearly it is a google translation, the dishes are seriously good priced! The staff was exceptionally friendly, throughout the space, but that goes with the city as well. Breakfast lounge is weird as well, blasting you with a morning disco routine and exercise by the staff, or the morning news... and the food is avoidable here... you don't really lose much by just walking a few blocks from the hotel or across the road for something much better. If you plan to just sleep and go, this place is fine. Otherwise avoid!
