Universal House Grand Romance Hotel

Hotel has nice views but too bad the windows are too dirty to get a clear view. They had a “Sightseeing” glass elevator that was just as dirty. All elevators were not in operation so waiting time was long, some people were not courteous and will totally cut in front of you. Rooms are okay but some areas need cleaning. The top glass drink shelf was very dusty. Bed is okay and wifi working properly. Staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet had a good variety of food and some regional specialties like duck eggs. There is an egg station and noodle station. First day was fine but second day it was busy so they opened up another dining room. They did not refill fast enough and after waiting 15 minutes for more food, we left. It is close to many shops and a Carrefour. There is a food court about a block away with many excellent restaurants.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. As a family of 4 with two young children (5 & 7) we requested a king bed with an additional Rollaway, unfortunately it was not much more than a thin mattress on the ground, worse than a camp bed so we had to book a second room on arrival. Which would have been very difficult if our guide hadn't hung around as there was no English at the hotel so any communication was near impossible. The security guard on night shift out was most fluent and tried to assist where he could. Rooms were fine and beds were comfy. Just don't expect to be able to use things like the tv or safe as instructions in Chinese and reception can't assist you to explain. Breakfast would suit Chinese family however not western family. The milk was even served room temperature and couldn't even get a instant coffee. We ended up eating st McDonalds both mornings instead.

Stayed for 1 night, good location, lots of eating places around the hotel. The breakfast is OKay. Basically, the service meets the standard of 4 star hotel in China. I will stay again when I visit Chengdu next time.
