Howard Johnson Tianyuan Resort Jiuzhaigou

Love this hotel! Very clean and nicely decorated and my room is very large. Good but hectic breakfast. This hotel does cater to large tour bus so time your breakfast after eight if you can. All amenity is good. We had a in room massage and that was great after a long day of hiking Jiuzhaigou beautiful lakes.

Stayed as part of a China Travel group tour. It is, in spirit at least, a classy hotel, modern, big room, etc. It is like others under this brand connected to a separate Wyndham hotel that was a bit confusing. But there were too many glitches to justify more than three stars. The location is at the far edge of the town, so walking around outside is not practical, especially during the bitterly cold winter -- not much nearby. Problems began inside: staff didn't want to recognize my (completely valid) travel document. WiFi is purely "China Domestic", unlike other hotels we used, so many international websites important to us, and our HK-based e-mail, were not accessible. Lighting in the room was complex and didn't always work. Despite two different temperature controls, those didn't work either. No English TV that we could find. But the worst of it, from our perspective, is that the breakfast restaurant was very, very cold -- making any choice of hot dish or even coffee/tea useless unless you like cold noodles. That was frustrating because they had good selections. Maybe it is too expensive to heat such a large dining room. Just an accumulation of small things that dampened our enthusiasm for the hotel. I'm certain it would be more pleasant -- and far more crowded -- in summer.

We stayed 2 nights in dec winter, facing valley/ hill side block. This classy hotel compound super big and we enjoyed spacious room. Amazing big hotel room with walk in warerode, bath tub, clean comfortable and warm beds, plus seater & heated electric fireplace. We enjoyed our daily wide spread buffet breakfast. Nearby walkable has Chinese restaurants/ mini mart. We tried the hotel foot massage too ( average). Heated indoor pool avoided, as we afraid of altitude sickness from too much blood circulation. Location is about less than 10 min drive to the jiuzhaigou. But walking there will take half hr. We can speak Chinese, so the staff can service us v well . I will not recommend visitors who require walking assistance to stay valley facing room, since the hotel room face valley can be a distance from hotel entrance ...5 min walk?? Better to request hotel room in garden section.
