Tumalisi Hotel - Urumqi

My group originally had a booking of 3 nights but transferred to the Meiyu hotel across the street after staying one night only. I had seen the bad reviews but our tour planner, Ablajan Jilil, mentioned it was renovated just last year so was new now. Fact. Not all rooms have been renovated. It would have been fine even if it was old as long as it was clean. The rooms given to us were not. You'd think it was barely cleaned with the amount of dust on the walls, ceiling and corners. The hallways smelled of smoke. They offered to give us better rooms reserved for another group and I commend them for at least that. We checked it out, it was cleaner and looked brighter but the air was still not ok for us. It didn't smell of smoke but probably due to the dust in the hotel overall, it was causing allergic reactions in some people in my group. So we had no choice but to transfer out after one night with our medicine and stuffy noses. Location of the hotel is very good. Near the Grand Bazaar and behind it is a street with restaurants thats alive at night. Hotel food was also good with a variety of choices though be warned its typical western China food choices only.

I stayed in this hotel with my grand father for total of 4nights. This hotel is situated in the Uyghur part of city so it is a bit far from central business district. However, the hotel is fairly centrally located so there is no shortage of amenities like eateries and shops. There was also a branch of Bank of China with good currency exchange rate and ATMs accepting major cash/credit card from around the world.

Looking at all below commebts i was a bit scared. No smoke smell in the room, room is clean ( ok a bit oldish) but clean and nothing wrong. The wifi is working perfectly, our luguages were delivered to our room and the groom refused the tip (!!) mentionning that it is included. The breakfast is decent ( not suitable to westerns ... But as usual in west china). Over all very ok , i just find it a bit overpriced , certainly due to location.
