Empark Grand Hotel Kunming

The same things you met here is noone speak English! In this hotel you have to use body language! The room is nice with almost enough facilities except for the room key which suddendly can not be opened door! Breakfast is good with many choices not for Western! Moreover if you are the first time in China should know that Google and FB, instagram have been banned

Stay here for one night on a business trip. The room is quite large and well-appointed. The bathroom especially is very attractive with a inset bath and separate large shower. It's possible to lie in the bath and look out through a large window. The Wi-Fi is fast and free. Now on to the things I did not like about the room. I could not get the air conditioning to cool the room down sufficiently. Even after switching it on and turning the temperature down and turning the fan up, the room still felt stuffy. However it was possible to open the window and the cool nights in Kunming are a blessing. They don't have any international power sockets so you need to have an adapter unless you have Chinese plugs. Only one of the shower heads worked, I could not get the rain shower shower head to work. The mattresses are extremely firm Chinese ones. The breakfast buffet is quite nice with mostly Chinese food and a small section of Western buffet. There is no Japanese, Korean or Indian style food at breakfast, though. Staff are quite nice with people able to communicate in English when needed.

Stayed for business for a couple of nights. Staff were very helpful and hospitable. Breakfast buffet was adequate, if a little sparse. The 'non-smoking' room came with the usual reek of tobacco smoke, and was supplied with ashtrays and matches (go figure). The hotel was largely in good repair, and everything worked. The restaurants close on the dot of 9pm, so forget late dining (although room service is excellent with huge portions). Good wifi. Don't expect multi-lingual staff.
