Kai Wah Plaza International

Used on tour. It was a very convenient hotel right next to Kunming station. We arrived late at night, checked out early the next morning, but it was a hotel that made us want to stay a little longer.

Kai Wah Plaza International Hotel was an excellent place to stay in Kunming, and its location is one of its biggest strengths. The hotel is extremely convenient, with a metro entrance less than 200 metres away and Kunming Railway Station within easy walking distance. The nearby metro station is South Ring Road Station, which is the interchange point between Line 1 (Red) and Line 2 (Blue), making it very easy to get around the city. Kunming Railway Station itself is a major hub, although it does not serve high‑speed rail. For high‑speed trains, you need to take Metro Line 1 (Red) to Kunming South Railway Station, which is straightforward and well connected. Just beside Kunming Railway Station—about a 50‑metre walk—is Nanyao Bus Station, where many day tours and short regional bus trips depart. Overall, the location is very hard to beat, especially for travellers relying on public transport. The surrounding local area is also fantastic, with plenty of local eating options along Yongan Road in both directions, offering great variety and authentic food. The hotel itself is a luxurious five‑star property, featuring a swimming pool, gym, and additional services such as hairdressing, facials, and massage treatments. There is a Chinese restaurant, a wine bar, and a Western restaurant, which also serves the breakfast buffet. Food prices are good value by international standards, though somewhat expensive by local Kunming standards. The Chinese restaurant was outstanding, with excellent food quality. The Western restaurant was also good, particularly for breakfast. Rooms are large by Chinese hotel standards, clean, and very comfortable, with generous bed sizes and a luxurious feel. What really sets this hotel apart is the level of customer service. Room service was attentive, and the concierge and reception staff were exceptional. They went out of their way to help us find items we had forgotten to bring, making a genuine effort to assist. Restaurant service was also excellent. While the building itself is showing its age compared to newer hotels, what it may lack in modernness it more than makes up for in service, attention to detail, and professionalism. Although room and food prices are on the higher end for Kunming, they represent very good value by international standards. I would happily recommend this hotel and encourage others to support this business.

Great hotel , well located , 2 towers of 37 floors . This hotel is very functional, charmless. Huge common areas. Good sized room and beautiful bathroom.The bedding is frankly hard, in my opinion, and the bathroom was not spotless when we arrived. Breakfast offers a very wide choice , with an impeccable level of service and is really enjoyable , offsetting the rest , which is very standard .
