Yinxiang Gucheng Wenyuan Hotel Lijiang

I basically concur with the other reviewers' comments. I enjoyed the old Chinese cultural ambience and I would have rated the hotel higher if the room furniture was in Chinese decor instead of the French Provencial. The closeness to the old town shops make it a great place to stay if you can maneuver around the alley ways. I give it a high 3 rating to depict the better than your average hotel architecture.

I'm told this is the same as Lijian Old Town Hotel. It is in the old town and very convenient to many shops and restaurants. Our guide said that there are 50,000 shops in Old Town, and I believe it. Vans take you luggage to the hotel since there is no cab service into the old town. Be prepared to let them have your luggage or to lug it yourself for about a ten minute walk over cobblestones. Our room was small, but from the front door of our second floor room, over the roof tops, you have a great view of the mountians if it's not too hazy., The back window of our room overlooked an area where it seems laudry was done and employees took breaks. There is no air conditioning here, so at night it can be noisy with the windows open and during the day noisy with phones ringing and people talking on phones not far from your window. The room was small, but clean and I couldn't understand why they chose sort of a french provencial decor. There are two computers with internet access to use in the lobby, and internet available in rooms. The staff members I spoke with didn't know much English, but we were able to communicate as needed. Breakfast offered a good selection of Asian and western foods.

This is a great place to base you in Lijiang. Far enough from the bustling center of the old town to have quiet, but close enough to walk there in no time. Rooms are OK and the food at the restaurant is too edulcorated for tourists, it's lost a bit of the real Chinese food character. Service is courteous and fairly efficient. There in one PC with internet connection, nothing in the rooms. I usually ate with my driver and the food was better! (At least for me, but I am an adventurous type when it comes to food.)
