New Century Hangzhou Grand Hotel

This hotel is not a bad choice if you are staying in Xiao Shan district, there's a big shopping mall near by, with many restaurants, coffee shops, and a supermarket, and there's a subway station right in front of the hotel. The room was comfy and clean, except there's no air conditioning due to the Covid restrictions, I had to borrow a fan, also my room was a bit noisy sometimes, I could hear noise from hallway and rooms beside me. WiFi was not very stable; breakfast was so-so; gym was fully equipped; OK service except housekeeping called everyday asking when can she clean my room, kind of annoying ... Best part of my stay was the self-service laundry room in the basement and it's free, very helpful for me since I stayed 3 weeks.

Stayed one night recently as part of a group tour. Check in was quick and efficient and the lobby is fairly jaw dropping. Lots of huge spaces and oversized decorations and marble. Our room was in tower B and was very large and luxurious. We had a nice view of the building across the road and the light and fountain show. Nice amenities in the room such as robes, slippers, etc. Room was very large. (I see comments in other reviews about small rooms - possibly in building A or another part of the hotel?????) We made use of the pool (building A) and it is quite lovely with 25m lap lanes as well as a play/open swim area. You must have a swim cap to use the pool. The staff at the fitness center will sell you one for 30 RMB if you don’t have one. Locker rooms are very nice with showers, towels, shampoo, etc all provided. Steam room and sauna are available. Workout room has weights, treadmills,etc. There is also a smaller gym in building b but it was unstaffed when we were there. Fitness center opens at 7am, which is too late to squeeze in a workout if you are on a group with an early departure. Breakfast was fine - typical Chinese hotel breakfast offerings like soup and steamed buns and such. The biggest downside to the hotel is the location - more than an hours drive from the west lake area or city center. There are absolutely no stores or restaurants near the hotel at all. There is a small convenience store in building B if you want cup noodles or a soda. Otherwise you only other option is the restaurant (dinner buffet about $20 USD but included all you can drink beer and wine). Staff has limited English. They are friendly and helpful and you should have a translator app available to help you with these sort of common challenges for traveling in China.

I was on a group tour from Boston to China. We spent three days in this hotel. Check in was fast. Staff are generally bilingual but it is China - at least have your translator app set to "simple Chinese". The lobby and overall appearance was beautiful. Rooms were smaller, good beds, beautiful bathroom with many free amenities in case your forgot items. Hotel health and fitness options were good. The best part was breakfast. Do not miss it. They offer at least 35 - 40 different options: Chinese, traditional american and European. The neighborhood does have a small convenience store nearby. Room service was fast but the menu is limited after 10 PM.
