The Gallery Hotel

Out choice was guided by the title boutique and we expect a very nice boutique hotel. It was not the case. \\\\we did book well in advance and we had also confirmation of booking from the hotel. However, on our arrival, they had no room for us or at least the room type we wanted. We called our agent and the agent, one of the best in Hangzhou, told them we were VIP and if they did not give us the room there were consequences. Finally, when we went to see the room we booked Deluxe Business Room, we decided it was not as we did expect. It was very far below a standard room and we decided to look for another hotel. The hotel after few days return us the part of the money. Unfortunately, we just thought there was no feeling of being welcome and wanted as guests.

Stayed with a friend at this hotel in June 2014 - Hotel bedroom was fine ( quite big/ good beds) when we eventually negotiated a room with a window!! None of the staff could speak any English & more importantly had no interest in helping us. The level of spoken English would have been similar in all the hotels we stayed in throughout China, however this was the only place where staff were more interested in their mobile phones than in helping guests - very disappointing ! We also came across more smoking (& smell of stale smoke) here than anywhere else. Stay somewhere else !!

Stayed here with two friends and booked via ctrip.com and got a really good rate, cheaper than the other 4 star hotels in the region. It takes around 20+ mins to walk to Xihu, location not perfect for tourist stuff but it's near the railway station too which is convenient. Decor a little tacky but room size was huge (I think they upgraded us) and comfortable for the price. Despite requesting a non-smoking room you could still smell smoke in the room (but I think this is typical of most Chinese hotels). Hotel staff didn't seem to speak English.
