Zhejiang New Century Hotel

stayed one night here recently. the hotel is located on a small street just off an avenue. so it is relatively quiet. there is a convenient shop about 3 min walk. however, west lake is at least 25 min away by foot, about rmb 20 to 30 by taxi, depending on which part of west lake you are going to. i saw a bus stop about 2 blocks away from the hotel but could not figure out which bus goes to the west lake. room is decently equipped: toiletries, flat screen tv, tea making facility, but is in need of some refurbishing. carpet needs some thorough cleaning. other than the carpet, everything else is clean. the bed is a little hard but comfortable. the front desk n housekeeping staff efficient but not very friendly. they will answer questions but will not smile, nor go the extra mile.

I was booked to this hotel by my agency as my first booking was rejected by the staff of another hotel I have booked. Long story. The hotel is nice and luxurious, according to Chinese standards (including the breakfast, which is totally Chinese, even though they offer coffee :) It is pricey if you want to travel on a tight budget. Most of the staff don't speak English, but of course there are people speaking it.
