Affinity Suites Apart Hotel

I have stayed at this long stay hotel twice. The pro's are the great location right across from the mall. This is key if you want to go out at night because Medellin (especially in this neighborhood) can be very dicey at night. Crime is skyrocketing in this city. I was chased through the McDonald's parking lot one night (its right next door) and was fortunate to get back to the building unharmed. They also have a decently appointed kitchen, spacious rooms and a decently appointed kitchen. The cleaning staff is also excellent. The con's are spotty internet service (despite repeated complaints). It was once out for several days. This can be catastrophic if you plan to work remotely. The front desk has no phone service to the rooms although there are phones in the rooms. If they want to contact you, they contact their sister hotel who then contacts you via phone. In the mean time your food delivery (or guests) may get cold. You can give them a whatsapp contact, some desk staff will use it, some won't. I could not figure out why. Don't try to make a reservation directly with the hotel. You will wait a month to get a full response and then be offered the online rates. If you are lucky the rates will not have gone up. Medellin can be noisy at night, but that is going to be true of any place you stay in the more touristy parts of town. They are currently renovating many rooms and while some noise is understandable it will go on for an extended period and you will not get a straight answer from the hotel as to how long it will last. It will be impossible to conduct work calls from your room. Instead of sending in a crew to do the demolition in a timely manner, they will have one hotel maintenance man in there every day banging away with demolition from 9AM to 5PM six days a week. And the acoustics of the hotel are such that if it is a room next to, above or below you it will sound like the construction is in your room. They could send in a crew to get the demolition done in a much shorter time frame. They would also do a much better job of warning their guests about the construction with accurate information about its duration.

It’s is a good hotel. Mostly friendly employees. I have stayed here a few times. I am a frequent traveler and have stayed in many hotels in and around Medellin. So I like Affinity Aparta Hotel. Generally stay 2 weeks at a time. Am in Medellin around every 60 days. This past trip my telephone in my room hasn’t worked for 9 days. So ordering room service or anything else you need must be some through my telephone. I’m from the west coast of the US. So I need my coffee more than usual to get moving in Colombia with the time change. Some days you get your coffee to make in your room and some days you don’t. To give some context I always tip the people that clean the room. So it is not an unhappy person cleaning my room. Tonight I come to the room and see no coffee, no fake powdered cream which I use here and no sugar. I call down (on my cell phone) and talk to the front desk on March 14 and am told that they supply coffee but no sugar or cream. I’m assume their is a loss in translation so go down 21 floors and talk to the front desk in person and there is no confusion, He tells me he works here for 5 years and that has always been the policy. This is after 26 days of staying here in total I find out they have been doing me a favor by supplying me sugar and fake cream for 26 days. I am writing this more for management to quit stepping over dollars to pick up nickels and fix this bad policy. Annoyed guest.

I spent over a month at Affinity in a 2 bedroom suite. The suite was well appointed. . I was welcomed by John the porter who was always helpful and friendly. The receptionists were also helpful especially Nigroroberto who handled the night shift. Everyday my apartment was cleaned thoroughly by Diana who always had a smile. The small reception area was also cleaned and wiped down thoroughly regularly. Truly love the neighborhood. Seconds away from Oviedo and a minute away from Mila D'Oro. Many good restaurants, cafes and bakeries in the area. Perfect location. Highly recommend.
