Getting to Hotel de Campo Caño Negro involves navigating some seriously potholed roads, but if wildlife and birds are your thing, it’s absolutely worth it. The grounds are alive with spider monkeys and an impressive array of bird species. Rooms are comfortable and include a fridge, though the bathrooms feel a little dated. The swimming pool looked inviting. The restaurant is pleasant — they make their own pasta and cheese, and the food is genuinely good. The team is also well-organised, serving breakfast conveniently after the morning boat tour. A rewarding stay for nature enthusiasts willing to make the journey.

Quite a beautiful complex on the lagoon. Very friendly by the owner Andrea. The big plus is the boat tours. We had one in the morning with Andrea in the lagoon. Just the three of us with him. That was brilliant. He is a nature photographer himself and gave good tips and knew how to put the boat for the best shot. And an afternoon tour of the river. Just great.

One of the loveliest places I have ever been to. Very kind people, home cooking with a twist, great breakfast . The river is stunning, so many birds. We had 3 3 hour boatrides with a guide ..best experience in Costa Rica and wirt the bumpy ride.
