From the moment we arrived, we knew this stay was going to be special. What truly set this hotel apart was the incredible wildlife experience — and we didn’t even have to leave the property to enjoy it. We saw a sloth up close and personal, playful monkeys swinging through the trees, squirrels, giant iguanas, many geckos, hummingbirds, toucans, and even macaws. Sitting on our patio became one of our favorite daily activities. Early each morning, we could hear the unforgettable sound of howler monkeys waking up in the jungle across the way — such a magical and authentic Costa Rican experience.
The peaceful atmosphere was exactly what we were hoping for. It was always easy to find quiet time at the pool during the day, and in the evenings we often had either the top or bottom half of the pool completely to ourselves. It never felt crowded or rushed — just relaxed and serene.
The staff made an already beautiful setting even better. They were genuinely friendly and went above and beyond to help us plan our time outside the hotel. They gave us thoughtful advice on parking, recommended their favorite local restaurants (besides their own, of course), pointed us toward the best beaches, and helped us choose excursions that fit exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to experience this beautiful destination at a slower, quieter pace — avoiding overly busy tourist spots — and their guidance made that possible.
The location is ideal. The hotel is just a few minutes from the town of Quepos and only minutes from Manuel Antonio, yet it feels tucked away and peaceful. Every excursion or outing we did was within 20 minutes, which made everything convenient and stress-free.
A very special thank you to Mike and Andreas for the many chats and inspiring culinary tips. Jordy deserves particular recognition for his excellent English, incredible patience, and for always being available to make sure we had the absolute best experience. We also don’t want to forget Aislyn and the wonderful bar and kitchen team who greeted us warmly every day. By the end of our stay, it truly felt like a home away from home.
We would absolutely return and highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful, wildlife-rich, authentic Costa Rican experience.

This place was overall amazing for several reasons. I was a female solo traveler who stayed for 10 days and felt completely safe the entire time. Communication prior to my arrival, for confirmation, was excellent. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendliest staff, Andreas, in which I later discovered the entire staff is warm and welcoming, including the owners. It's a real laid back family vibe here! The room was incredible as I selected the ocean view room which had almost 360 degree views through all of the huge picture windows. I was greeted by a pair of Macaws every morning and sunset (which were stunning). The room was clean and large. The grounds are beautiful. It's like being placed in the middle of the rainforest, but still inside the city somehow as the hotel is close to everything you want to do in Manuel Antonio. I saw all kinds of wildlife including a sloth walking across the entry driveway of the hotel. I received assistance from Andres, with setting up activities and giving helpful tips as to the best restaurants, and more local things to do in the neighborhood. And yes the pizza is really good!! I can't thank you all enough for your hospitality throughout my stay! I will definitely return to Hotel La Colina if ever in the area again.

The barebone architechitecture, gardens, and location is hard to beat. This is one of the oldest hotels in Manuel Antonio and clings to the mountain side and has a mature garden. it has spectacular views from the "ocean view rooms". Otherwise it feels like you're in the jungle which is nice as well. As other reviews have mentioned, this hotel needs some TLC, but not that much really. Our room had a cracked sink and a lose toilet and some faded painting, but the vaulted ceiling, doors, windows and beds are all made from gorgeous wood. The interior decorator in me wanted to get to work--paint the walls white (rather than yellow), add terracotta tiles and update the art works. There were oddly no hooks to hang towels. The safe didn't have a key. barely no surfaces in the bathroom to put your toiletries on. Restaurant is gorgeous, but the pool water didn't look clean and the menu didn't inspire other than the wood fired pizza and drinks. No breakfast is served. you could tell the staff was stretched thin and doing their best, but I'm guessing their cheap rates makes it hard to keep it all going.
