When this place was Poseidon it was one of the coolest little boutique hotels with some of the best food. Now they don't know what they are doing. I understand they are remodeling but there are ways to do so while still keeping the restaurant open. Downstairs was totally shut down and upstairs was just a jumbled mess of tables. No coffee out early in the morning? How hard is it to make some coffee and have it out for the guests? The front desk guy was very disinterested until the day I checked out and suddenly he is nice? Please....this was my 4th time in Jaco and I'll be back again but won't be staying here anymore.

We went to Jaco for one night and took our small dog. The Poseidon is one of the hotels that permits dogs for a few, which is why we chose it. Overall the experience was very positive! Some details: Staff: 5/5 stars. Very friendly and helpful. Excellent customer service and just genuinely nice people. Recommended good food, helped with an early check in, helped very kindly with parking, etc. A+ Room: 4/5 the room was clean, a/c was on when we arrived. For the price, the room was very nice and a good size. The shower was large and had good water pressure. The room layout was a bit odd but not uncomfortable. The hair dryer didn't really work at all but we just needed it to dry off our dog a bit after washing the sand off of him. I also recommend just adding a soap tray or some sort of shelf in the shower to put shampoo or soap...not a big deal though. WiFi was on and off but we did not complain and I am sure the staff would have helped us if we had. Location: 4/5. It is not on the beach but very close, and you don't have to cross the main road which is a plus. It is next to a bar so we could hear some music but we were in a room in the back so it was pretty faint. Hotels facilities: 3/5 the bar wasn't open and I don't think the restaurant was either but they are currently remodelling that part of the hotel so it makes sense. The pool looked nice but is small and in an awkward location where all guests would be walking by as they go to their rooms. Not a big deal for us since we prefer the beach anyways. Parking: 3/5 they do have a parking lot but you have to pay extra, which again we were happy to do. The parking has to be accessed from the main road so it is a little awkward and it is closed for security so someone needs to come and manually open it if you need to leave. This is not really a problem in Jaco since most things are at walking distance anyways... We just parked the car and walked to the store, beach and restaurant, but if you want to leave town to go eat it is a very small hassle. Other guests in the hotel were loud and annoying at all hours but we didn't complain and that's not the hotel's fault. Overall, would recommend!

I have been coming here for years and for a little kitchen out front, somehow they make the most magnificent fish dishes here you have ever eaten. Their Tuna is my favorite, huge piece of tuna, fresh vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes is my absolute favorite in town, I was there for 3 nights this trip and had that 2 of the 3 nights lol. The other night I had the dolphin, which had a unique sauce that was out of this world, I can't remember everything but a little coconut milk , some garlic, some fresh herbs, tasted a little citrus on it too, what a culinary delight. Downside is that they have raised their prices pretty substantially on the food there, it used to be a stellar bargain, now it is inline what you would pay for that same dish in the US, I think the fish dishes are 26 or 28 somewhere in there. Seems there are some new owners, although I think he said Tim was still helping out in the transition. Looks like they are doing some rebranding to name it the Trident.... I wish them the best of luck I have been coming and staying at this hotel and eating there as well for many years now. Really good food is hard to come by in Jaco, so don't miss this one! The hotel is small , clean, nice private small pool and area. Hope to be back soon to enjoy this jewel so close to the beach, ideally located hotel!
