Cloudforest Lodge

The lodge is in a beautiful setting, and while the rooms don't look impressive from the outside, inside the rooms are stylish, modern, spacious and comfortable with sitting area, tea and coffee facilities, large bathrooms with good toiletries, robes, and private balconies with furniture. I think the rooms have been modernised recently and they are now lovely. On arrival we were given a cold welcome drink of pineapple juice with basil, which was very nice. We had some trips from here which were really good, but the main thing we were impressed by is the food. We had breakfast in the dining room with a great view, humming birds and other colourful birds come to feed from stands near the restaurant. The breakfast was the best on our trip, and we stayed in 6 different hotels. We had an evening meal here which was the best of the trip. We are a party of 6 and a couple of us thought it was the best meal ever! It is colder here than other humid areas we went to, but pleasant in August, not cold.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cloudforest Lodge - it's just the right size not to feel impersonal. The location is great with extensive grounds and we liked their forest trail where we spotted a number of birds and animals. Our room was clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped, and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - especially reception who provided very useful suggestions for walking trails including Valle Escondido, organising a cab for us to visit there (recommended!). The food was exceptional. Breakfasts were substantial and delicious, and being able to watch the humming and other birds visiting the lodge's feeders while we ate was a delight. The dinners we had were also superb, and we enjoyed finishing our wine round the log fire after dining. We did think, however, that having the restaurant staff introduce themselves as 'gastronomic advisers' was perhaps a little pretentious. A lovely place - would thoroughly recommend.

This lodge has had a total refurb since most of the pics were posted and is now run by Boena group. It’s stunning and we were really happy with our stay. Setting and views are beautiful, interiors are amazing and immaculate, especially the log fire area. Best breakfasts of our whole trip. A couple of tiny suggested improvements- more comfortable chairs on the deck and dim the restaurant lighting in the evenings.
