Sheraton San Jose Costa Rica

I sent my (Fav Uncle Val) to stay at the hotel. I have lived in Costa Rica for years and previously stayed with the Sheraton regulary. The level of stay has deminished massively. I had to get involved from a distance on the rude persons upon his check in. As an ex professional footballer of Manchester United I am appauled at the level of service given from a so called Marriott flagship

Located next door to a casino and about a 6min walk to the huge Multiplaza Escazú (even though google shows a wildly inaccurate route taking 37min!). There's a lot to see and do at the Multiplaza so it is well a visit. Our check-in was a lengthy experience but at least we were upgraded to a 6th floor executive room with access to the executive lounge on the 7th floor. Our room was a typical size with shower room but there were no luxury touches such as robes or slippers. The TV included a lot of channels (including HBO) but unlike many other hotels it was not possible to switch the audio to English. There is a pool and 24hr gym on the 8th floor. The gym was a reasonable size whereas the pool was really just a plunge pool. We did, however, enjoy our time in the executive lounge which included pretty decent food in the evenings coupled with great service. The Wi-Fi was good throughout the hotel. Overall, this is a fairly average hotel which is fine for a short stay.

Beware: if you are a couple or two guests staying in one room at this hotel and did not book the room for 2 people in the original reservation, they will charge you $50 per night for the second person. I checked the website right after check-in and the rates were the exact same for one person or for two people. They made it clear that this policy is an internal policy and not Bonvoy. They try to play it off as if they need to keep track of the number of guests in the hotel, but I view it as a way to gouge guests at the last minute during check-in because it is not displayed at the time of booking. I would not recommend this hotel and will never stay here again even though I travel to San Jose often. Ironically you can have your pet with you for an additional $20 per night, but having my spouse with me cost an additional $50 per night.
