I was here as part of a Gate 1 tour (which I highly recommend). The hotel was pretty standard, it gave me everything I needed. Some of the reviews for this hotel say that it's not luxurious as expected from Wyndham. However, it seems that it might be standard for a Tryp Wyndham.
I liked the hotel. The rooms were clean, the lobby had a restaurant, the service was good. That's really all that matters to me. I felt very comfortable here.
As far as the area around the hotel, San Jose in general has some crime issues. For me, I am a single female, so I stayed in at night.

I stayed here for a total of 8 nights. The staff was fantastic and helped me with my requests/needs. The free breakfast had reasonable variety although but a few options that appealed to me. The A/C worked like a champ (however, I never could figure out how to adjust temp; it was either freezing or moderate. My first bed was caved in on one side. My second room had a shower that fluctuated temperature so much it was difficult to wash without burning myself or freezing. The good outweighed the bad but overall I'd say it was just an average hotel.

I don’t know what is happening, but this was a very disappointing stay, especially for a Wyndham property. There was no coffee maker in the room, no refrigerator, no bottled water. Ok, that can be said of many places. But go to the restaurant, there’s no wine or beer. There are just 3 types of liquor: scotch, vodka, and Baileys. Our group then wanted bottled water. Nope. None left. Ok, how about sparkling water? Well, there’s three bottles left. Then ordering for dinner, seriously just tell us what you do have. No fish, no calamari, no ceviche, no no no seemed to be what was for dinner. The food served was fine, but it made us feel like the place was about to go into receivership and we all wondered if the ingredients were safe at that point. Yes, the street side is really noisy in the morning. Costa Rican’s use their horns a lot. It may be convenient to get in and out of San Jose, but there are so many other places to stay. I wish we could have moved.
