Bristol Hotel Opatija

This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the shoreline promenade. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from close by. The A/C in the room was not working. With the heavy blanket, it got a little warm even in early May. The glass door at the shower only covers half the width of the stall, with water splashing all over floor. We had a room with the ocean view. But it turned into a nightmare came midnight. Across the hotel is Park Angiolona. Between the park and the sea is the Open Air Theatre. Apparently there was a concert at the theatre starting at about midnight with loud booming basses playing until about 3 am in the morning. Even with the windows closed, you can still hear the incessant beats of the music. I mentioned it to the receptionist the next morning. She just shrugged.

We stayed here with our tour group so we actually had no choice . We would reflect to our tour company that this was not our usual choice of hotels for the same tour company! In fact I was reading the hotel official photos from Tripadvisor while I was in my super small room and I thought I was looking at the WRONG hotel, because the photos were totally different from reality! (except the dining hall for breakfast!) Not only was the room small but also too warm (thermostat not working but luckily we were at the beginning of spring)…. Not sure how it feels like in hot summers. I actually felt sorry for some the older members of our group because they had to climb into the tub and the glass separator could move (for the cleaning lady’s convenience) and the separator was super small so the shower flooded the whole (small) bathroom floor. It was extremely slippery even for other adults. Also no body lotion nor hair conditioner was provided. Breakfast was just so so but enough to start the day. The dining hall was quite grand and spacious. The only star in this review was given for the location, which was the only good thing here. Close to restaurant, a supermarket, opromenade (nice on both directions, 3 min downhill walk through the park). And one last bonus: saw the full moon setting by the hill,, over looking at the Adriatic Ocean (peekaboo view)…

This hotel is obviously older than most. And they don’t offer a lot of services. As an example no iron or earning board, but they’ll gladly charge you Frito iron your clothes. I don’t have any electric fans. We are here during the time when they only have the heat on which was in May, so even though it was warm in the room, I couldn’t turn the air conditioning on. And we had to keep the windows open. Which wasn’t very good because of the noise from the street and some club down the street. We could hear music till about 3 AM. I was here with the tour group. I would never stay here on my own if I had to make a choice, it’s in a great area, though lots of places to walk around the best thing about this place was breakfast and that was not the best.
